Academic and Public Libraries: Usage Stats, Customization & Management of Your DISCUS Resources
TRAINING DESCRIPTION
Is your institution fully maximizing its use of the DISCUS collection? Public and academic libraries can customize and manage these resources in a variety of ways to better integrate them into their collections and services. Attend this important session to get more value from the databases provided to your library by DISCUS.

For overall DISCUS collection administration at the local institution, participants will review:
  • Linking and branding instructions
  • Support resources available in the Toolkit
  • Recent additions in content and functionality

For all the databases in the DISCUS collection, participants will learn how to:
  • Retrieve usage statistics and identify report options
  • Utilize customization options

For the databases provided by EBSCO, participants will receive an overview of the key features and functionality of EBSCO Admin, the administrative tool to manage customization, authentication, title lists, and local collections of EBSCOhost resources.  Topics include:
  • Security and administrative roles, including checking and resetting passwords for administrators
  • Customizing the user interface, including searching defaults, limiters, branding and changing the interface colors
  • Viewing results
  • Considerations for eBooks and EDS
  • Creating usage reports, and more

For the databases provided by Gale, participants will receive an overview of the key features in the Gale Admin tool.  Topics include:
  • Customizing and personalizing settings to suit specific needs
  • Accessing usage statistics using the Usage Portal from within Gale Admin
  • Managing individual product preferences via a Product Preference Module
  • Setting up barcode authorization and referring URLs
  • Using tools designed to increase usage, including widgets, AccessMyLibrary, and mobile apps

Academic and public libraries are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to send representative(s) to this training, particularly individuals who serve in the roles of DISCUS Primary Contact and DISCUS Technical Contact.  If your institution wants to retrieve and report electronic resource usage statistics in any way, this is a VITAL & NECESSARY workshop.
